Kenyon Carter is an Atlanta-based jazz saxophonist and recording artist recognized for his melodic smooth jazz compositions and engaging live performances. He expresses his creative and soulful style through a beautiful and sultry sound. Although unique and entirely unmistakeable, he has been compared to contemporary smooth jazz favorites like Boney James, Dave Koz, Kirk Whalum and Gerald Albright.
Highly respected by his contemporaries, Kenyon is frequently invited to collaborate on stage and in the studio with some of the biggest names in the music business. Kenyon’s newly released smooth jazz album, Right By My Side, showcases the depth of his talent and abilities with a seamless blend of original compositions and clever interpretations of several classics. Raised in South Georgia, Kenyon’s call to jazz came early, picking up his first saxophone at thirteen. He began his formal education at Valdosta State University, where he earned Bachelor’s degrees in both Jazz Performance and Music Education. Later, he pursued graduate work at Georgia State University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies.
His debut album, Right By My Side, is a smooth jazz album that crosses over into easy listening and instrumental pop. This soundtrack contains melodic tunes that incorporate a colorful landscape of rhythm and grooves. Shimmering with sounds of multiple saxophones, layered percussion, and a grooving’ rhythm section, it’s the perfect instrumental pop album to play as a background soundtrack at both home and in the workplace. Today, Kenyon lives in Atlanta with his wife, Chris, and keeps an active calendar of live performances and studio projects.
Kenyon’s most recent album, Songs For My Father, will be available in August of 2014, and will debut exclusively at The Velvet Note!
