Swing! The Hot Club of Atlanta will bring prohibition era hot jazz & vintage American pop to the Velvet Note for two sets on Saturday night, May 9, 2015. The Hot Club’s sound harkens back to the time when Benny, Basie, and Lunceford ruled the airwaves and Anita O’Day and Billie Holiday captured hearts without autotune or twerking. Collectively, the band’s members have over a century of professional performance experience and appearances all over the world, which allow The Hot Club of Atlanta to deliver joyous music that sets feet to moving and “washes off the dust of everyday life”.
The Hot Club’s beautiful songstress Amy Munson performs with a purity and lightness of tone that evokes great early jazz singers Peggy Lee and June Christy. Drummer and bandleader Dana Fitzsimons has performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, legendary New Orleans singer Little Queenie, and award winning jazz pianist Harris Simon. On this exciting night at the Velvet Note, the Hot Club will also showcase the talents of clarinetist Marla Feeney (Bonaventure Quartet, the New Anatolian Experience), Grammy nominated guitarist Trey Wright, Louisiana trombonist Mark Williamson, and others.
Join us for two sets of swinging jazz at the Velvet Note – recently recognized by Downbeat Magazine as one of the best jazz clubs in the world. The Note is an intimate club with limited seating (and excellent food), and advance tickets are strongly recommended.
Showtimes: 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Admission: $22.
