This Chick Corea-inspired “journey music” quartet consists of bassist JT Thompson, guitarist Isaac Thompson, keyboardist Clarence Hill, III and drummer Jerrod Sullivan.
The 4 Korners has recently signed on to Green Leaf, a television series whose executive producers are media mogul Oprah Winfrey and LionsGate Films. Scheduled to air in Spring 2016, the series is centered around the drama of a megachurch, and will feature The 4 Korners as the church’s house band, performing on the soundtrack and acting in the episodes. Additional stars include Oprah Winfrey herself, Keith David as the church bishop and Lynn Whitfield as the bishop’s wife.
Members of The 4 Korners grew up together in Cartersville, GA, a small town 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta. Isaac, JT, and Jerrod are all graduates of the Atlanta Institute of Music and Clarence is a student of the highly-acclaimed pianist and professor/instructor Kevin Bales. The 4 Korners released their self-titled album in 2013 and recently recorded an EP and video documentary at 800 East Studios in Atlanta under the guidance of award-winning producer Khari Cabral-Simmons. Each band member also serves in the house band of his Sunday church service.
The 4 Korners have been this year’s Artists-in-Residence at The Velvet Note Acoustic Living Room. In addition to The Velvet Note, performances include The Suite Lounge, Blue Ridge Wine and Jazz Festival, Apache Café, Eddie Owens’ Red Clay Theater, Darwin’s Burgers and Blues, Kat’s Café, Café 290, and an upcoming show at St. James Live with flutist Darryl Evan Jones. In the tradition of pioneering contemporary jazz greats like Tim Weisberg and Hubert Laws, Darryl Evan Jones (long known by his fans and peers as “the fluteman”) brings the unique instrument’s classic vibe and rich melodic and harmonic possibilities to a new generation. The journey and experiences of Darryl Evan Jones can be heard and felt in every note he plays. Shattering expectations and preconceived notions of what he and his flute should sound like, he freely and creatively focuses on the beauty of his musical expression; his phrasing, attack, and interpretation are simply unparalleled. Darryl Evan Jones has wowed audiences across the country and as the opening act for artists like Jeff Lorber, Kem, and Boney James. Chronicling his musical journey are CD’s titled “On My Own”, “Instrumental Soul”, “Dream”, and his latest project “Relentless”, which features hits like “Unstoppable” and “It’s Alive”. If you missed his last sold-out performance at The VelvetNote, now is the time to catch him again!
