Considered one of Brazil’s finest guitarist/composers in the past twenty years, Ulisses Rocha has achieved international acclaim with his performances in international festivals in United States, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Russia, Cuba, Syria, Kuwait, Zimbabwe, Paraguay, France, Lithuania, Japan, Netherlands, and Belgium.
Mr. Rocha is currently a visiting professor at the University of Florida, where he performs and records as a soloist, but also continues his musical collaborations with some of Brazil’s most prominent artists. Mr. Rocha teaches at Unicamp (University of Campinas, Brazil) since 1990 and in (2012-2013) was a Bacardi Scholar at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida.
In this concert, Ulisses Rocha is sided by Alexander Crook (drums) and Vitor Loureiro (bass). The guitarist resumes his improvisation expertise, after a longstanding dedication to composing and arranging for solo guitar.
The repertory includes new and revisited pieces of his own, adapted for the trio, where Ulisses Rochaflirts with the jazz language having the guitar as central element. The loose and fluent playing stylebuilds the mood of this formation, emphasizing the natural expression of the moment. The result
is a mature, vibrant, free, and personal music, demonstrating a full range of features of this unique guitarist, who has impressed international audiences with his sensibility, creativity and virtuosity.
