Saxophonist Ves Marable

Ves is a Birmingham, Alabama native and received a Minor Degree in music from Alabama State University. He began studying the saxophone at the age of twelve. While he played in bands throughout Middle school and High School, he studied privately with many legendary saxophonists such as; Amos “Flash” Gordon, Charles “Chuck” Clark, Jessie Taylor, Bobby Simmons and Frank “Doc” Adams. While attending Alabama State University, (in Montgomery, Alabama) Ves had the opportunity to study with Dr. Thomas E. Lyle, Director of Bands and Professor, William B. Fielder, the legendary Jazz Trumpeter. Professor Fielder was the private instructor for; Wynton Marsalis, Terrance Blanchard, Thara Memory, and many others.

After graduation, Ves left Montgomery and started performing regularly with a number of notable acts and bands throughout the country. These bands would share the stage and open up for national acts and international artists such as; The O’jays, Frankie Beverly and Maze, The Barkays, Patti Labelle, Eddie Kendricks, Destiny’s Child, Kirk Franklin, Venessa Williams, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass and many others.

Ves is now an outstanding band leader, producer, arranger, promoter and recording artist in his own right. Ves is a former saxophone instructor for the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, a studio musician and highly sought after sideman for other artists. Ves has performed for a number of national Jazz and Blues festivals and other major venues throughout the country. He has also been the musical guest, interviewed, and made appearances on a number of national radio and television programs. Ves has also appeared in the Motion Picture “Selma” produced and starred in by Oprah Winfrey.
