Jazz Pianist Tyrone Jackson returns to The Velvet Note, this time with award-winning vocalist Toni Byrd!  Wow– talk about a powerhouse duo–these two on the same stage are hot, hot hot!  Tyrone and Toni will lead you on a musical journey of piano and song interpretations of some of the greatest music of our time.

TyroneJackson2Mr. Jackson was born in the birth place of jazz, New Orleans. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Orleans. He studied privately with Ellis Marsalis and Mary Ann Bulla. He has played with Earl Klugh, Melba Moore, Wynton Marsalis, Wes Anderson, and Greg Dawson. Mr. Jackson toured Italy and Austria with the UNO Jazz Band and Brazil with Michael Ward. He is a Jazz Compostion Competition winner and a member of the Rialto Jazz Artist Foundation. His teaching experience ranges from private piano instruction, jazz piano, jazz theory and improvisation.

Toni Byrd is one of Atlanta’s unforgettable and versatile vocal artists. Nominated by Black Women in Jazz for 2014 Best Black Female Vocalist of the Year and recipient of the 2014 Best Black Female Jazz ToniByrd6Record Award for “Autumn in New York”, Byrd has made Georgia her home since the year 2000 and has worked with some of Atlanta’s finest musicians. In addition to singer, songwriter and awarding winning vocalist, add actress to her status.  Byrd was cast in a primary role, playing the character, “Ida Belle”, in the movie, “Lawless”, which opened in theaters in August 2012 starring, Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Guy Pierce, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman. Byrd is the first female vocalist to perform at the legendary Pinewood Atlanta Studios for the kickoff gala celebrating the new American location in Fayetteville, Georgia.  Byrd also recorded background vocals for a TV series pilot, “Still The King”, starring Billy Ray Cyrus, and recently opened for the legendary Gladys Knight.
