Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Scott Draffin has been receiving attention and acclaim for his distinctive compositions, thoughtful lyrics and exciting performances. He showed an interest in music at an early age, studying the piano and saxophone. Through his father’s substantial record collection, Scott was exposed to a vast array of music, including classical, jazz, popular, and word music. versatile saxophonist, Scott has performed with jazz combos, big bands, salsa groups, saxophone quartets, pit orchestras, wind ensembles, and as a soloist. The variety of his firsthand performance experience informs Scott’s compositions, which exhibit the same diversity.
Scott’s approach to songwriting blends fluidity of Wayne Shorter’s quartet, the explosiveness of the Brian Blade Fellowship, and the rich imagery of Joni Mitchell. In addition to the music he performs with hi own group, Scott has written numerous compositions for string quartet, brass quintet, orchestra, chamber ensemble, big band, marching band, and film. Scott was awarded a masters degree in music from Georgia State University, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant. As he continues to develop his craft, Scott stays true to his artistic vision in a pursuit to expand the musical realm.
