Growing up in Kalamazoo, MI (yep, Kalamazoo) Quiana was most inspired by her mother singing to her as a child and filling their home with the sounds of classic 80’s R&B. Taking notice of her passion for singing, her mother enrolled young, shy Quiana in church, school and community choirs. Here is where she would begin to grown out of her shell.
Quiana started pursing music professionally while attending North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC for Jazz Studies and Music Education. There, she connected with Grammy Award Winning producer 9th Wonder and recorded her first EP entitled “Simply Qui” with his team of producers Khrysis and E. Jones. As somewhat of a rookie in the game, Quiana felt honored and privileged to be featured on the hip-hop duo, Little Brother’s final album, “Left Back”. Her writing and vocals were showcased on the hook for the catchy track “What We Are”
Coming off tour as a background vocalist for Grammy Nominated artist B.o.B, Quiana is now working on her first LP. “This is my dedication to R&B music, the music that I grew up listening to. The melodies, harmonies, changes and lyrics made you feel like smiling, dancing, laughing, crying or loving. That’s what I plan to do, make people feel again.”
