“I love Frank’s fire to express music. His quartet has a freedom and spiritual feeling.”
Grammy winning saxophonist Kebbi Williams
Born in Memphis, Tn. and raised in Durham, N.C., the blues have been a big influence on the music of Frank Barham. Bluesmen like Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and James Cotton motivated Frank to pick up the harmonica in the beginning. A love of jazz and R&B led to Frank’s ultimate pursuit of the chromatic harmonica. His song list includes tunes by Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock; bossas by Antonio Carolos Jobim and Luis Bonfi; blues by Ben Tucker and John Coltrane. Mix the fluidity of Toots Thielemans, the funk of Stevie Wonder and the rawness of Howlin’ Wolf and you’ll have the key elements in the unique sound of Frank Barham.
This band brings down the house with a hot Afro-Brazilian groove and features Fernanda Noronha from Bahia, Brazil on vocals, Chocolat Costa from Sao Paulo, Brazil on guitar, Musa Sutton founder of An Ka Fo Drum and Dance on djembe and congas, Matt Stallard on bass and Frank Barham on chromatic harmonica.
