FRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30P. Russell Gunn is an American trumpeter and composer born in Chicago in 1971, who grew up in East St. Louis and made his name blending jazz tradition with hip-hop, funk and global rhythms. He has worked with major figures including Wynton Marsalis and Marcus Miller, and his “Ethnomusicology” series became a signature statement of his bold stylistic range. In recent years he has embarked on a project named “Blackhawk”, a small-group ensemble dedicated to re-visiting and honoring the spirit of the classic jazz live-club recording era.
