Yes, that’s right–Alpharetta has its very own symphony, and we are celebrating at The Velvet Note!
The Alpharetta Symphony Orchestra is a brand new community ensemble comprised of adult and high school musicians. The AlpharettaSO regularly performs orchestral and chamber literature, and collaborate with local artists, under the musical direction of Dr. S. Eric Hawk.
Meet The Conductor: S. Eric Hawk, ABD, is a doctoral candidate in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Georgia in Athens. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Mr. Hawk has served as the Assistant Conductor of UGA’s premiere symphony orchestra, working with Professor Mark Cedel to expand the growth and artistry of the ensemble. Always open to exploration of new repertoire, he conducted the Georgia premiere of his own scholarly edition of Hans Rott’s Symphony No.1 in E major. Additionally, he collaborated with Dr. Skip Taylor, nurturing the development and maturity of UGA’s second orchestra for non-majors, the University Philharmonia.
Mr. Hawk is the newly appointed conductor of the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra Philharmonia beginning this 2014-2015 season.
Mr. Hawk recently moved to Alpharetta, where he resides with his wife, Dawn, a doctorate candidate in Piano Performance at UGA, and their two labradors, Sunny and Lilu.
ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY: 7:30pm. Admission: $23.
