Frank and Ella

Atlanta vocal sensations Taryn Newborne and Greg Robbins present a some of their favorite holiday tunes, in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra! Singing both duets as well as taking turns singing, they will be joined by some of Atlanta’s best jazz musicians (Kevin Smith – bass; Justin Varnes – drums; Scott Ulmer – piano)! With such a combination, this is sure to be a night that will rise above the status quo winter concert!

 

Born in Memphis and raised in Atlanta, Georgia; Taryn Newborne comes from a family that engrained music into her life. Exposure to music at such a young age inspired the saying that “Taryn loves music so much that it hurts her feelings”. The artist is seemingly moved and inspired by many musical pioneers such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington, Anita Baker, Sara Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder and Joe Sample. Musical credits include her own traditional Jazz ensemble Taryn and The Real Deal, Joe Gransden Big Band, Macon Pops Orchestra, and Lead vocalist of Christian Jazz quintet, Invitation. Taryn has graced the stage as featured vocalist for the National Black Arts Festival Gala and opened for headliner Peabo Bryson, winner of two Grammy awards.

 

Greg Robbins is a jazz vocalist/crooner based in Atlanta. He has a resonant and classy sound which is compared in style to Johnny Hartman, and Harry Connick, Jr, and Mark Murphy. A graduate of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, he was a vocalist for the Berry College Jazz Ensemble and its combo, and he has formal training in the bel canto singing style. He has performed multiple music festivals including the Atlanta Jazz Festival and Counterpoint Music Festival, and at every major jazz venue in the Atlanta area. Greg performs multiple events a week throughout Atlanta, Northwest Georgia, Athens, and the Southeast. He is set to release his Debut Album in March 2018, and he is sponsored by the tie company Dazi.
