DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES:  7:30PM AND 9:30PM   Whether he’s performing at international jazz festivals in Stockholm\, Montreux\, Bermuda and St. Lucia or closer to home in and around Atlanta\, veteran saxophonist Reggie Hines always asks his audience the key question: “How many of you want to go on a musical journey?” Though while commanding the stage\, the multi-talented songwriter and musician is clearly referring to the constant sense of groove he brings to his eclectic mix of salsa\, hip-hop\, jazz\, trap\, bebop\, gospel\, funk and even classical music\, his words could also apply to his fascinating\, multi-faceted career. \n\n\n\nSpeaking of his unique style of performing\, Reggie Hines says\, “I kind of like to break the norms but keep a constant thump going.” Over the years\, he brought that rhythmic magic around the world as part of Angie Stone’s band for eight years\, in addition to hundreds of his own performances. Auriyan Tillman is an incredibly diverse vocalist who has been sharing her gift since she was a little girl singing in local churches\, city events and school performances. She attended John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School in Augusta\, GA\, and developed her singing and performance skills in the demanding music program there. She became lead vocalist with the school’s jazz band and\, with that experience\, discovered the feel and the songs of jazz\, growing a love for the music.   \n\n\n\nFollowing high school\, Auriyan decided to pursue a career as a musician and continued her education at Kennesaw State University\, studying under jazz vocalist Karla Harris. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance in May 2023 and has been busy further developing her talents\, performing at Atlanta venues such as Ray’s on the River\, Ray’s in the City\, Elliot St. Pub\, Redlight Café\, The Balzer Theatre\, St. James Live and more. She’s caught the attention of some of Atlanta’s top jazz musicians and has shared the stage with people such as pianist Tyrone Jackson\, drummer/producer Larry Wilson\, and drummer Chris Burroughs. \n\n\n\nAuriyan is poised to make her mark on the jazz scene as a vocalist unafraid to step outside of the expected and bring something new to the jazz conversation.

SUMMARY:Friday & Saturday\, January 26th & 27th:  The Curtis Lundy Quartet with Craig Handy
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOWTIMES:  7:30PM AND 9:30PM.  Curtis Lundy is arguably one of the most prolific in-demand bassists on the modern jazz scene. He is a disciple of the mainstream straight ahead hard bop school.  Jazz Times calls Lundy “one of the most spiritually uplifting bassists on the jazz scene today.”  Bags & Trane is an album by Milt Jackson and John Coltrane\, released in 1961. Taking its title from Jackson and Coltrane’s nicknames\, it is the only collaborative record by the pair\, although only Jackson contributed original compositions. \n\n\n\nTenor saxophonist Craig Handy attended North Texas State University. His distinctive sound and authentic instrumental prowess were redoubtable traits immediately noticed by artists of stature\, especially those committed to nurturing new talent on the bandstand and road. \n\n\n\nHandy moved to New York in 1986 and began several associations with formidable artists including master drummers Art Blakey and Roy Haynes\, South African melodist Abdullah Ibrahim\, and the Mingus Dynasty Band. During a Mingus Dynasty engagement\, one audience member – none other than an impressed Bill Cosby – approached Handy and eventually invited him to be the featured soloist in his sitcom’s music theme for 1989-90’s “The Cosby Show”.  \n\n\n\nLundy and Handy reunite on The Velvet Note stage on January 26th and 27th\, and you want to be sure to catch the wave!
