SUMMARY:Friday\, October 27th: Carrie Bell Sings Gershwin
DESCRIPTION:Carrie has spent her life committed to the art of storytelling through music. \n\n\n\nHer career started as an artist\, performing as a triple threat – with a musical theater career earning her equity status doing professional shows across the country. She has also doubled down on a commitment to music and arts education\, running her own dance troupe and ultimately /helping hundreds of students learn to find their voice through vocal technique and coaching…which she still does today. \n\n\n\n A classically trained vocalist and pianist\, Carrie is also a talented songwriter who has always wanted to tell stories for music that remind us that life really is a stage and that music has the power to connect us by illuminating our shared journey through “this thing called life.” \n\n\n\nBut her first love\, the music that inspired her as a child and to this day is a staple in her performance roster is the music of George and Ira Gershwin! \n\n\n\nShe has previously taken the stage at The Velvet Note with the Justin Varnes Quartet for the Jazz Legend’s Series celebrating George Gershwin\, and is back by popular demand with her own selection of favorites and arrangements. \n\n\n\nLet Carrie take you on a journey through song through the eyes of a legendary catalogue of music.

SUMMARY:Friday\, November 3rd & Saturday\, November 4th: Jazz Guitar Master Russell Malone and His Quartet *** SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! ***
DESCRIPTION:“Obviously\, we are in the capable hands of a master. Absolutely fluid touch and beautiful integration between moving lines and harmonic cadences. The sound of the instrument is well-balanced throughout the entire register. The relaxed quality of everything that’s being played gives it such a warm feeling. To play that stuff is extremely hard. This is an absolute master\, the best of the best.”—Kurt Rosenwinkel\, responding to Russell Malone’s solo performance of “Remind Me” on Playground [MaxJazz\, 2004]\, in a DownBeat Blindfold Test. \n\n\n\n– – – – – – – – – – – – \n\n\n\nRussell Malone is one of the signature guitar players of his generation. The several recordings since 1992\, Malone is as well-known on the international circuit for helming a world-class quartet and trio as he is for his long-standing participation in Ron Carter’s Golden Striker Trio\, and his recent consequential contribution to the musical production of the likes of Sonny Rollins and Dianne Reeves\, who recruited Malone for his singular tone\, refined listening skills\, limitless chops\, and efflorescent imagination. \n\n\n\nIn all these circumstances\, Malone addresses the tradition on its own terms\, refracting the vocabularies and syntax of such heroes as Charlie Christian\, Chet Atkins\, George Van Eps\, Johnny Smith\, Wes Montgomery\, Grant Green\, Kenny Burrell\, Pat Martino\, and George Benson into an argot entirely his own. A master of all tempos\, a relentless swinger\, he spins his stories —in idioms ranging from the urban and downhome blues\, country\, gospel\, various corners of the American Songbook\, and hardcore jazz—with a soulful\, instantly recognizable instrumental voice\, and seasons them with sophisticated harmonies that are never “too hip for the room.”

SUMMARY:Friday\, December 1st: Stand Back~The Music of Stevie Nicks
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Club owner Tamara Fuller and seasoned Atlanta performer Kristin Tinsley share a deep love and admiration for all things Stevie Nicks\, the face of Fleetwood Mac. So\, it was a no-brainer when Fuller approached Kristin with an idea: Perform a Stevie Nicks tribute show at her Alpharetta club\, The Velvet Note. \n\n\n\n“Stand Back\,” the Stevie Nicks tribute band\, was formed with – who else? – but Kristin on lead vocals along with fellow musicians Scott Ritshie (keyboards)\, Nick Edelstein and Daniel Glozier (guitar)\, Steve Mays (bass) and Doug Easterly (drums). Selecting these bandmembers was easy for Kristin\, who had  performed with them in a Chicago tribute band from 2017 to 2020. \n\n\n\nKristin credits Scott Ritshie\, a highly talented keyboardist\, as being “the glue” for every song they attempt.  “He strives for perfection when it comes to his craft\,” she said\, and his attention to detail and care with every sound choice holds every song together.” \n\n\n\nIn Nick Edelstein\, who owns Village Music in Avondale\, Ga.\,  Kristin sees “a versatile instrumentalist and educator.” He is involved in several musical projects that include “Nick and the Grooves\,” “Opera Carolina\,” and “Black Sheep Ensemble.” \n\n\n\nThat first tribute performance at The Velvet Note hit a few snags\, one due to the original bass player contracting the COVID-19 virus. “No worries\,” said Fuller\, the club owner\, who recommended Steve Mays\, a former house bass player at Velvet Note described by Kristin as one of the band’s “most versatile\, solid and well-rounded players.” \n\n\n\nThe remaining other two band members are no slouches when it comes to their musical acumen and stage presence.  \n\n\n\nDoug Easterly has a background as a vocalist in Rumors ATL\, the Fleetwood Mac tribute band\, played drums for the ZZ Top tribute band\, “Cheap Sunglasses\, as well as other accomplishments. “We played opposite each other on Fridays at a local upscale restaurant for about four years and have been friends for nearly a decade\,” Kristin said. “He has been with us ever since I needed a drummer after the third Stevie tribute show\,” she said.  \n\n\n\nDaniel Glozier has played with AIA and currently plays with the Stephen Lee Band out of Atlanta. “He is one of the most technically sound players who brings a wealth of knowledge professionalism and a standard of sound to any project he is part of.” \n\n\n\nDespite the short time together as the “Stand Back Band” these artists have known each other in some musical  sense and fashion for many years. So\, it’s no stretch for them to master Fleetwood Mac’s most indelible songs with an ease and precision that pleases fans.  “The best part about this show is that not only do I get to play the music of my favorite artist\,” Kristin said\, “but I get to do so with five of the best musicians I have ever worked with.”

SUMMARY:Wednesday\, December 6th: Sataras Quartet
DESCRIPTION:ONE SHOW ONLY: 7pm. Sataraš Quartet (pronounced SAH – tah – rash) is an instrumental quartet from Atlanta that fuses jazz improvisation with ethnic Southern European roots and American blues to create exciting new worlds of sound. Conceived by guitarist Eddie Beho and saxophonist Jeff Crompton\, they soon lured bassist Colin Bragg and drummer Blake Helton with the promise of untold musical delights. The work of John Coltrane\, Miles Davis\, and Jimi Hendrix are touchstones\, and yet the group has found both an original\, powerful sound and a loyal following. \n\n\n\nThe group released a studio album Errors and Omissions that fulfilled their mantra of “music 5000 miles wide.” The tracks traverse time\, distance\, and influence\, but come together in a way that only a well-tuned band can produce – assured\, exciting\, and at times telepathic. All aspects of the Quartet’s musical output is covered: adventurous\, electric takes on ethnic folk\, abstract blues and funk\, an original jazz\, and a jazz classics. The group navigates these stylistic turns with a strong sonic identity and unity of purpose.  \n\n\n\nJournalist Doug DeLoach states\, “It’s jazz seasoned with sinuous Balkan riffs and compound Macedonian rhythms\, smoked to perfection and washed down with a pitcher of Bitches Brew.” \n\n\n\nKeen to present their live sound\, the group has planned an ongoing run of limited edition releases titled the Official Bootleg Series. The first volume captures a performance at Atlanta’s Red Light Cafe. \n\n\n\nMusic writer Bill Mankin exclaims\, “This album is stunning. And it’s not just ‘great for a live album’; the audio fidelity is outstanding\, as is the stereo mix…the music\, arrangements and playing are phenomenal\, and the stylistic mix is not merely fascinating\, it works brilliantly. This is my new favorite album!”
