DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES:  7:30pm and 9:30pm.  The moment we heard David Penn\, we just couldn’t get enough!!    \n\n\n\nOriginally from Hempstead\, New York David has spent a number of years as a jazz bassist.   He studied Computer Science at St. John’s University in Jamaica Queens\, but during that time he was starting to build his bass playing experience around the greater New York area.  Mainly self-taught\, he had the opportunity to study with bassist Cecil McBee.  In his early years he worked with a number of established artist including Talib Qadir\, Cecil Bridgewater\, Bill Saxton\, Billy Mitchell\, Kamil Gainer Jones along with the late Walter Davis Jr.\, Charlie Persip and the one and only Betty Carter.  While touring with Betty Carter he originally played with pianist Khalid Moss and drummer Lewis Nash before eventually playing with pianist Benny Green.  Working with Betty Carter during that period provided him with a wealth of valuable musical knowledge along with a variety of song arrangement ideas.  \n\n\n\nHe eventually took a long break from his musical career and moved to Atlanta where he now resides.  In more recent years while working with local jazz musicians\, his desire to play bass\, write and arrange music continued to build.  This led to the creation of CreativeTone and the current album release.  He has written a number of original songs\, some of which will be debuted on the upcoming album titled “Back on Track”.   This work is a culmination of his years of playing bass along with life experiences all of which have been captured in the music recorded on the album.

Michael has also performed in several groups for Bootsy Collins\, KeKe Wyatt\, Keisha Cole\, Mike Phillips\, Chantae Cann\, Damian Sneed\, Marc Broussard\, and Clyde Brown (Drifters). Michael was also a part of the filming of “Miles Ahead” and portrayed NYC-based trumpeter and recording artist\, Ernie Royal\, starring Don Cheadle as Miles Davis (r. April 2016)\, as well as filming for HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” (released 2020).

Tom is a John Lennon Songwriting Contest winner and a Boston Music Award nominee for Outstanding Songwriter. DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES:   7:30PM & 9:30PM.   Billy Ray Sheppard is a jazz saxophonist who has lived in San Antonio Texas for many years. He is a proud graduate of Fox Tech High School and St. Mary’s University. Soon after academic life\, he pursued many different avenues in the field of music. He has been performing since the 80’s\, and his musical roots run deep; having his earliest musical experiences in Blues\, R & B\, Reggae\, Latin\, Tejano and Country bands. It’s his love for music that has kept him grounded and his love for jazz that keeps him performing.  \n\n\n\nBillyRay is a first-call smooth jazz performer\, having shared his talents on stage with notable genre stars such as Steve Oliver\, Peter White\, Adam Hawley\, Will Donato\, and Darryl Williams. He’s also performed with Roy Hargrove\, Johnny Bush\, Julio Iglesias\, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and many more. With his saxophone’s rich\, warm\, soulful tone\, he has made a name for himself on both the local and national music scene. \n\n\n\nIn November 2017\, BillyRay released his debut CD entitled “Silk”\, co-written and produced by guitarist Steve Oliver. The album contains the single “Heels and Pearls” which has reached the TOP 20 airplay chart on smooth jazz radio. \n\n\n\nFor the past five years BillyRay has produced a very popular monthly “Second Sunday” Smooth Jazz series in San Antonio. These concerts\, performed by BillyRay and his band\, serve charity organizations in and around the community. To date\, these charity events have successfully gifted over $40\,000 in donations to deserving non-profit organizations throughout the community. \n\n\n\nToday BillyRay is looking forward to providing many more great things for his fans including releasing a new album to be named! \n\n\n\nThanks for joining him on this journey!

He was born in Atlanta\, Georgia and grew up in Stone Mountain\, Georgia\, and graduated high school from DeKalb School of the Arts where he participated in the school’s Jazz Band. He attended Florida State University\, performed with their jazz combos and the top big band\, and received a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. He has played at venues such as B-Sharps Jazz Café\, the Amelia Island Jazz Festival\, the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center\, Ruby Diamond Concert Hall\, and the Fox Theatre. Nathanael is now based in Atlanta and is pursuing a master’s degree in jazz studies from Georgia State University while performing with their Honor’s Combo\, GSU Jazz Band\, and performing professionally as well. \n\n\n\nJoin us for his debut album — Missing Piece!

American Tune: Simon\, Croce and Taylor takes you on a magical trip back to the 1970s to experience the timeless music of these three prolific singer-songwriters. Relive the intimate storytelling\, intricate chord changes and breathtaking melodies of these gifted artists – their work building on and transcending the more traditional folk-influenced acoustic music of the previous decade.  \n\n\n\nTom Glynn is a Nashville resident and child of the seventies\, who spent countless hours learning every guitar and piano lick by his musical heroes as he wore out the grooves on their records. He went on to become an award-winning singer-songwriter himself and is thrilled to be paying homage to these musical giants. Tom is a John Lennon Songwriting Contest winner and a Boston Music Award nominee for Outstanding Songwriter. Several of his songs have been chosen by NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association) for their coveted Top 40 honor\, and his music has been featured on ABC\, Fox\, Lifetime and Showtime.  \n\n\n\nTom uses a unique semi-standard guitar tuning that stays true to the artists’ signature fingerstyles while adding a deep\, lower register to the instrument\, essentially accompanying himself on bass to add a warmth and fullness for the audience.

With years of experience as a musical performer and actor with familial roots that place him firmly within the music’s firmament\, Atlanta-native Hightower is still just getting started on this benevolent turn in his journey. And he is bringing a lot of young people with him. \n\n\n\nGrowing up in Atlanta with a local legend mother who was a Funk-Rock singer but could sing anything and mentored many singers coming behind her\, Tony learned music first-hand from Bobby Blue Bland and the Platters to Mother’s Finest\, S.O.S. Band and Brick. “My first jazz musical loves were Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra\,” When I started making my transition into Jazz\, I asked Freddy Cole for his tutelage. He gave me a lot of obscure artists and songs to learn. Then one day\, he told me in earnest\, ‘You need to start writing your own songs. We need new songs!’  \n\n\n\nHightower concludes. “What I’m doing is finding the ways that I can sing Jazz and still make it appropriate which I think is going to make me different as a jazz singer. I have the understanding of what it should be but then I have these other tools that are separate from what Traditional Jazz is. I’m figuring out the balance of where Jazz purists will respect it while people who don’t think they like Jazz dig it.”

DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES:  7:30PM AND 9:30PM.  Doug Carn is an American jazz musician from St. Augustine\, Florida\, formerly married to Jean Carne. His multi-faceted talents as a pianist-organist-lyricist began to emerge onto the contemporary Afri­can-American music scene during his teenage years. He worked with Nat Adderley\, Earth\, Wind & Fire\, Shirley Horn\, Lou Donaldson\, Stanley Turrentine\, and Irene Reid.[2] In 1997 Carn and other jazz organists including Dr. Lonnie Smith (jazz musician)and Reuben Wilson recorded Bongobop with The Essence Allstars that featured both solo performances and a duet with Joey DeFrancesco. \n\n\n\nThis is Doug’s return performance to The Note\, and you’ll definitely want to catch this jazzman and his band!

DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30 and 9:30. Castella hit the music scene in April 2020 with the release of her original tune No Ordinary Love. Hailing from Long Beach\, California\, Castella has sung her entire life.  She was inspired to tap into the creative side of her brain by mentor and writing partner\, Darryl Swann. Unknowing to Castella\, this little project would turn into the fulfillment of unrealized dreams of sharing her gifts with the world. Castella released her first EP –Thinking About You\, produced by Corey Stampley\, in late 2019. She released her first single from that EP “No Ordinary Love”in April 2020. This tune reached #24 on the Smooth Jazz Charts and garnered her a“Breakout Artist of 2020”Nomination by Smooth Jazz Network\, an original iHeartRadio station. She then decided to make another record and release it on her birthday as a gift to herself. During the pandemic\, she met producer Jeff Canady. Along with Jeff\, they pushed out two amazing records\,“Let Me Love You” and “Sleigh Ride”!  “Let Me Love You” reached #33 on the smooth jazz charts and rose to #5 on the Urban charts and rose to #1 on the Black Planet Radio chart in Italy. Sleigh Riderose to #6 on the smooth jazz Holiday Chart. Castella’s work on “Let Me Love You” garnered her nominations for the“President’s Award”\,“New Comer of the Year”and“Best Female Artist of 2020”as well as being named “Artist of the Year” by the Central Standard Time Show on stlsmoothjazz.com. and she has the hardware to show it! Ever true to her work and trusting her heart\, Castella decided to reach back into her pocket and release her tune Mojito from her debut EP. A very special record to Castella and her team where her mentor\, multi-platinum\, Grammy Award winning producer Darryl Swann contributed with writing on the tune as well as mixing and mastering the tune\, in fact all of her tunes. Mojito did well on the charts\, rising to #2 on the Urban Influencer R&B/Soul Chart and #49 on the Smooth Jazz Network Top 100 Chart!! Castella continues to work on more music to share with her fans.  Castella released her chart topping tune “So Glad I Met You” featuring trumpeter and friend\, Willie Bradley.  This song did well on both Smooth Jazz Charts as well as hitting #2 on the UK Soul Charts and #1 in Canada with TeeRex Radio!  Castella had the wonderful opportunity to work with French producer Tom Glide to produce a remix of “So Glad I Met You” which topped the UK Soul Breakers Chart at #1 as well as making several charts in the UK and Canada Top 10!

Tony has performed at various festivals and venues across the U.S.\, including the San Diego Smooth Jazz Festival\, Winter Park Jazz Festival\, Boscov’s Berks Jazz Festival\, Stockton Jazz Festival and more.  \n\n\n\nIn addition to his successful music career\, Tony is also a radio host and a global brand ambassador for Kastell Vodka. He refers to his music as “Rhythm N Smooth\,” a tag that highlights his flawless execution of the smooth saxophone with R&B influenced grooves and melodies.
