SUMMARY:Friday & Saturday\, January 26th & 27th: The Curtis Lundy Quartet with Craig Handy
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Curtis Lundy is arguably one of the most prolific in-demand bassists on the modern jazz scene. He is a disciple of the mainstream straight ahead hard bop school.  Jazz Times calls Lundy “one of the most spiritually uplifting bassists on the jazz scene today.”  Bags & Trane is an album by Milt Jackson and John Coltrane\, released in 1961. Taking its title from Jackson and Coltrane’s nicknames\, it is the only collaborative record by the pair\, although only Jackson contributed original compositions. \n\n\n\nTenor saxophonist Craig Handy attended North Texas State University. His distinctive sound and authentic instrumental prowess were redoubtable traits immediately noticed by artists of stature\, especially those committed to nurturing new talent on the bandstand and road. \n\n\n\nHandy moved to New York in 1986 and began several associations with formidable artists including master drummers Art Blakey and Roy Haynes\, South African melodist Abdullah Ibrahim\, and the Mingus Dynasty Band. During a Mingus Dynasty engagement\, one audience member – none other than an impressed Bill Cosby – approached Handy and eventually invited him to be the featured soloist in his sitcom’s music theme for 1989-90’s “The Cosby Show”.  \n\n\n\nLundy and Handy reunite on The Velvet Note stage on January 26th and 27th\, and you want to be sure to catch the wave!

SUMMARY:Friday and Saturday\, February 2nd & 3rd: The Voice--Star Wendy Moten *** SOLD OUT!!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!!! ***
DESCRIPTION:                         \n\n\n\nFRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Some call her “The Greatest Voice on Planet Earth”. For many years\, others have simply referred to her as “The Voice”.  Music industry superstars agree: \n\n\n\nMichael McDonald – “One of the greatest living singers we have.“ \n\n\n\nLyle Lovett – “You are a legend.“ \n\n\n\nJulio Iglesias – “One of the greatest singers in the world.“ \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThey are all talking about the amazing Wendy Moten. \n\n\n\nWendy was born and raised in the gospel/soul/R&B mecca of Memphis\, Tennessee.  In fact she has a coveted brass note on the Beale Street Walk of Fame alongside the likes of Elvis Presley\, BB King\, W.C. Handy\, Johnny Cash\, and contemporary jazz great Kirk Whalum. For the last 25 years\, Wendy has lived in “Music City”\, Nashville\, Tennessee and made an all-star name for herself there as well. \n\n\n\nReflecting those diverse musical environments\, Wendy has developed a passion for great songs across multiple genres – from Soul to R&B to Jazz to Country to Swing; from Aretha to Whitney to Linda Rondstadt to Tammy Wynette. Wendy loves them all and has made their songs uniquely and soulfully her own. \n\n\n\nHer remarkable journey began with her 1992 self-titled R&B album featuring the Top 5 hit Come In Out Of The Rain.  In 1998 she was the featured voice on saxophonist Kirk Whalum’s All I Do single which became a staple on contemporary jazz playlists to this day. \n\n\n\nWendy spent 15 years touring the world with Julio Iglesias as his duet partner. She was a harmony singer for Faith Hill & Tim McGraw (2005-2018)\, Martina McBride (2014-2016)\, and Vince Gill (2016-2022). \n\n\n\nIn 2020 Wendy was invited to join the legendary Grammy Award winning Time Jumpers\, a western swing band featuring Nashville’s finest studio musicians playing sold out Monday nights at 3rd & Lindsley. She also released her own solo album I’ve Got You Covered.   \n\n\n\nThen in Fall 2021\, “The Voice “herself became a contestant for Season 21 of the NBC prime time TV show The Voice.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.tiktok.com/@thevoice.lavoz/video/7198550244001320197?lang=en\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe four celebrity judges’ reactions to her first appearance were a mixture of joy\, shock\, and superlatives: \n\n\n\nKelly Clarkson – You are what this show is all about. A voice so powerful\, so transcendent\, that you move people to another level. \n\n\n\nAriana Grande – I don’t know where to start. I am shook right now. Your tone. Your choices. I don’t know that I’ve heard anyone sing like that in my life. \n\n\n\nJohn Legend – Your mastery of your instrument is beyond perfect.  You have so much light in your voice\, you really are phenomenal and we are lucky to have you. \n\n\n\nSome call her “The Greatest Voice on Planet Earth”. For many years\, others have simply referred to here as “The Voice”.  Music industry superstars agreed. In 2020 Wendy was invited to join the legendary Grammy Award winning Time Jumpers\, a western swing band featuring Nashville’s finest studio musicians playing sold out Monday nights at 3rd & Lindsley. She also released her own solo album I’ve Got You Covered.   \n\n\n\n.   \n\n\n\nWendy took the weekly competition and the national viewing audience by storm \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n until tragedy struck. She fell over a monitor while exiting the stage. She appeared on The Finals with two broken arms… and finished the show as Runner-Up\, an outcome debated across the U.S. \n\n\n\nAfter recovering from her injuries and buoyed by her new-found fame\, appeared regularly with the Time Jumpers\, and continued her appearances at the Grand Ole Opry. \n\n\n\nWendy also released the single As which found regular airplay on contemporary jazz radio stations. She has made two sold out appearances at Birdland Jazz Club in New York City. \n\n\n\nDon’t miss this opportunity to welcome this phenomenal National Treasure to Atlanta for a very special night at The Velvet Note!

SUMMARY:Friday and Saturday\, February 16th & 17th: The Nat Adderley\, Jr. Quartet ***SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! ***
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY AND SATURDAY SHOWTIMES: 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Nat Adderley\, Jr. hails from an amazing legacy of music. His father is trumpeter Nat Adderley\, brother and longtime bandmate to legendary jazz saxophonist Cannonball Adderley. Despite composing two of his uncle’s recordings and performing on one of them\, the 1970 title track\, “The Price You Got to Pay to Be Free\,’ Nat went on a different path that at first was completely non-musical. After graduating from Yale University with a degree in African American Studies\, Nat worked for a while in Houston\, but then the path of music chose him when he found he could make more money playing a two-hour daily piano gig than a desk job. \n\n\n\nAt that point\, old friend Luther Vandross came calling and recruited Nat as his music director\, pianist\, arranger and eventual composer and producer. Like his father\, Nat put most of his musical eggs into one basket\, yet far afield from the family jazz mine. It wasn’t until years later\, that Nat’s musical path finally forked into the jazz direction of his famous uncle and father. \n\n\n\nNow leading the Nat Adderley Quartet\, the talented Jersey jazzster will play on the 16th and 17th at Georgia’s #1 Jazz Club: The Velvet Note!

SUMMARY:Sunday\, February 25th: Seven Days--A Tribute to The Music of Sting & The Police
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:00PM AND 9:00PM. \n\n\n\nSeven Days – a seven-piece tribute to the music of Sting and The Police – is the brainchild of lead vocalist/bassist Doug Busbee (Agent Cooper\, Guardians of the Jukebox\, Yacht Rock Schooner). When Busbee’s Atlanta music colleagues suddenly found their calendars open due to the pandemic\, he saw an opportunity to assemble a supergroup with his friends and pay tribute to one of his deepest influences. \n\n\n\nThe group debuted in May 2020 at the Velvet Note; performing to just two internet broadcast cameras and with each member standing/sitting six feet apart (at least that’s what the ad claimed). \n\n\n\nSays Busbee\, “Many working musicians consider playing in Sting’s band the best gig in the world. So in the absence of our usual wedding/bar/corporate party gigs\, we decided to create the best gig in the world for ourselves”. \n\n\n\nRounded out by guitarist Scott Patton (Sugarland)\, vocalist Dominique Brittain (Sweet Soul Sister) and keyboardist Mike Bielenberg (Yacht Rock Revue\, Yacht Rock Schooner\, U.S. Army Band)\, the band loves to surprise audiences with deep cuts such as “Russians”\, “Saint Augustine in Hell” and\, of course\, “Seven Days”. \n\n\n\nNaturally\, the band delivers the big hits like “Every Breath You Take”\, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic” and “Fragile”. And given the unique circumstances in which the band was formed\, “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” is a set list perennial.
