DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Born and raised in Minnesota\, multi-instrumentalist Trent Patten was introduced to music at a young age. Both his parents being musicians\, it was natural for him to have an interest in music. Trent started playing the trumpet when he was 10\, but didn’t have an interest in jazz until he was 17 when he attended the Hilton Head Jazz Camp. It was here that he met some of his mentors and friends that really inspired him to make others feel inspired through music\, as they did to him. Around this time\, Trent moved to the Southeast area where he started becoming very active in the local music scene\, going out to see music and meet musicians and playing gigs wherever he could. \n\n\n\nDuring this time he played with countless jazz musicians such as Kevin Bales and Joe Gransden. He has also opened for very well known jazz musicians\, such as Arturo Sandoval\, Monty Alexander\, the Count Basie Orchestra and Quentin Baxter. After a couple years of living here\, he decided to study trumpet at Coastal Carolina University with Dr. Matthew White. After spending a year there\, he had an opportunity to study in Atlanta at Georgia State University with Dr. Gordon Vernick. Trent now lives in Atlanta and has been playing all around the city reaching people with his music wherever he can.

Two extraordinary musicians speak the musical language of strings in a night to remember at The Velvet Note! \n\n\n\nBill Hart is a celebrated jazz‑fusion guitarist\, composer\, bandleader\, and educator. He began playing guitar at age nine\, moved to the U.S. in his early teens\, and by 16 was performing professionally in theater pit bands. After studying at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood\, he forged a distinctive path influenced by rock\, blues\, and jazz\, and has released six full‑length albums as leader of the Bill Hart Band. For over 25 years\, Hart led the guitar department at the Atlanta Institute of Music & Media\, teaching thousands of students and conducting masterclasses alongside icons like Mike Stern\, Scott Henderson\, and Steve Khan. He has shared stages with jazz luminaries such as Herbie Hancock\, Marcus Miller\, Norman Brown\, Joey DeFrancesco\, the Yellowjackets\, and the Rippingtons.  \n\n\n\nTerrell Montgomery is a dynamic Arkansas‑born bassist whose deep roots in jazz\, R&B\, soul\, and blues have shaped a vibrant career as a versatile performer and collaborator. A member of the Cincinnati music scene\, Montgomery earned his MM from the University of Cincinnati’s College‑Conservatory of Music following his 2016 bachelor’s from Arkansas State\, and had already been playing bass for over thirteen years. Initially trained on guitar\, he shifted to bass in junior high orchestra and quickly found his passion in ensemble work and has had a stunning trajectory upon relocating to Georgia.

Thad’s eclectic ideas as a modern composer are brought to life through his various projects: Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra\, his 16-piece big band; Inner Urge\, a collaborative project; Kindred Soul\, his electric group; and Kako Se\, an acoustic duo. The Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra became the only big band in the DC area to land a permanent residence at the esteemed One Step Down. Most recently\, the band was housed at HR-57 Center for the Preservation of Jazz and Blues\, recently named one of the world’s top 100 jazz venues by Downbeat magazine. Both as a leader and performer on the jazz scene\, Thad has become an acclaimed fixture. \n\n\n\nThad has performed alongside world-renowned artists such as George Benson\, James Moody\, Eddie Henderson\, Steve Turre\, Cecil Bridgewater\, McCoy Tyner\, Vanessa Ruben\, and Roy Hargrove. He also performed with Senegalese artist\, Djimo Kouyate\, at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Millenium Stage. His worldwide appearances include Moscow and St. Petersburg\, Russia; Le Caveau de la Huchette in Paris\, France; Antigua Music Festival; Atlanta Jazz Festival; New Orleans Jazz Festival; and Spoleto Music Festival in Charleston\, South Carolina. Thad was also invited to perform his original suite “Reflections on Romare” at the National Gallery of Art’s 2003 Romare Bearden exhibition opening festivities.

Toured and recorded extensively with jazz legends like Wynton Marsalis\, Louie Bellson\, Eddie Daniels\, Nat Adderley\, Sam Rivers\, and Bunky Green. He won the prestigious American Pianist Association’s Jazz Piano Competition in 1994. Currently leads jazz improvisation and small-group programs at Georgia State University School of Music. Kevin operates a private teaching studio and mentors a wide range of students – from hobbyists to career musicians .

Her first radio gig was in 1980 at UDC’s student operated station\, WUDC where she served writing copy\, performed production assistant duties\, voice overs and did fill ins for other air talents.Rivablue can be heard weekdays from 10am to 2pm on 91.9 FM WCLK\, Atlanta’s Jazz Station. Shortly thereafter\, Gwen made the transition to the major station at UDC\, 90.1 FM WBCU which had a jazz format. DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. With Louis Heriveaux Kevin Smith and Dave Potter. Born in Pittsburgh\, PA\, Ms. Wrobleski has lived up and down the east coast. She studied opera at the New England Conservatory of Music and musical theatre at the Boston Conservatory of Music.  \n\n\n\nAfter school\, she began her singing career with The Walt Disney Company in Orlando\, FL. As the character\, Cinderella\, she sang and danced in the Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Surprise Celebration show. She also played the role of Belle in MGM’s Beauty & The Beast show. \n\n\n\nIn early 2005\, she formed a jazz quartet and performed throughout Florida and Georgia\, including Downtown Disney’s Pleasure Island Jazz Company\, the House of Blues Orlando\, Nikki Beach Miami\, Churchill Grounds Atlanta and Sambuca in Buckhead. \n\n\n\nLater\, having moved to NYC\, Ms. Wrobleski performed regularly with Harold Mabern Jr\, Joseph Farnsworth\, Eric Alexander\, John Webber\, Sharp Radway and Anthony Wonsey. Oftentimes\, she was a featured vocalist with the Harold Mabern Jr Trio at the Village Vanguard\, Dizzy’s Coca-Cola Club and clubs around the world including Greece\, Vienna\, Russia and Italy.  \n\n\n\nIn addition to the music\, Ms. Wrobleski is an avid painter. Her portrait of jazz legend\, Harold Mabern Jr is on display at Smalls Jazz Club NYC\, a portrait of Teddy Wilson is hanging on the walls at Mezzrow Jazz Club in NYC\, as well as a mural at the famed Harlem restaurant\, Charlie’s Bar & Kitchen.

Born and raised in Memphis\, Tennessee\, Toni Byrd sang with the Grammy‑nominated choir Billy Rivers and The Angelic Voices of Faith\, which nurtured her vocal technique and stage confidence. \n\n\n\nIn the mid‑1990s she performed in community plays and joined musical groups like Trio Plus\, eventually transitioning to full-time vocalist roles. \n\n\n\nWinner of the 2014 Black Women In Jazz Award for Best Black Female Jazz Record\, Autumn in New York. Semifinalist in the 2014 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition. Released a tribute album\, Toni Sings Natalie\, honoring the legacy of Natalie Cole. A versatile song stylist\, Toni bridges jazz\, R&B\, pop\, and gospel\, often performing with duos\, trios\, big bands—even her own—and catering to corporate and private events. \n\n\n\nBorn and raised in Baltimore\, Al Smith earned a Music Education degree from Morgan State University. He founded the Al Smith Jam Session in Atlanta in 1998—now celebrating over 26 years as the city’s premier open‑mic and jam hub. Smith has worked with high-profile artists like Gloria Gaynor\, Goodie Mob\, Silk\, Will Downing\, Kim Waters\, Layla Hathaway\, Maysa\, Kenny Lattimore\, Chanté Moore\, Howard Hewett\, and more.
