DESCRIPTION:Born in Atlanta\, Kevin Oliver\, Jr\, is a bandleader and saxophonist currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at The Juilliard School. Kevin started performing at the age of 11. In addition to playing traditional concerts\, he also spent time busking in downtown Atlanta at sporting events\, parks and street corners eager to share his gift with the world. He was inspired to keep playing by the happiness that he saw on the faces of people who stopped to listen and meet him. \n\nWhile at Juilliard\, Kevin has had the opportunity to play at a wide range of venues such as Peter Jay Sharp Theater\, Paul Hall\, Dizzy’s Club and Jazz B in Brazil. As a bandleader\, Kevin has led bands at Zibas and Gallery 992 in Atlanta and in New York City at Williamsburg Music Center and at Massawa as the final guest of NADIA’s Amplified Currents festival. As a sideman\, Kevin has performed with trumpeter Etienne Charles\, the Mwanzi Harriott Quintet\, and with Rhonda Thomas on the main stage of the 2019 Atlanta Jazz Festival.\n\nKevin was a part of the inaugural year of NYO Jazz directed by Sean Jones and played concerts at Carnegie Hall and across Europe alongside Dianne Reeves and a big band of some of the brightest young musicians around the country. Some notable venues on that tour included Usher Hall (Edinburgh)\, Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam)\, and Konzerthaus (Berlin) just to name a few. He was also selected as a YoungArts Finalist for 2019. \n\nIn addition to his musical pursuits\, Kevin also performs around New York City as a standup comedian. He hosts\, produces and performs on shows such as Prior to Sunset @ The Tiny Cupboard\, +1 and the Juilliard Comedy Show. He was also cast as “Crying Man 1” in the Comedy Central digital sketch “What the World is Like When Your Phone Dies”. Bruce also occasionally toured with the Allman Brothers as well. \n\n\n\nHe is a seven time BMA nominee (2008\, 2009\, 2010\, 2015\, 2019\, 2020\, 2021) for the “Pinetop Perkins Piano Player of the Year” award\, which is the equivalent of the “Blues Grammys”. He was also nominated by Living Blues Magazine for “Outstanding Musician (Keyboard)” award in 2015 and 2019. SUMMARY:Friday\, July 9th:  Saxophonist Deon Yates
DESCRIPTION:Deon Yates began his solo career in 2009 when he competed against up and coming contemporary jazz artist from all over the United States at the Capital Jazz Challenge in Columbia\, MD. Although he did not win the competition\, he was named runner-up. This gave him the drive and determination to pursue his solo career further. With the exposure garnered from the competition and being called on stage to perform with Rick Braun and Richard Elliot at the Capital Jazz Festival\, Deon sparked the interest of U.S. Music Enterprises\, LLC. They asked Deon if they could feature his song\, “Freeway\,” on their “Jazz Infusion-Session 1” compilation album. The project was released on May 23\, 2010 and marked the first time Deon’s music went international.Deon spent the next couple of years performing and honing his craft. Thanks to his performances at the Capital Jazz Festival\, Deon became a regular fixture with the house band on the Capital Jazz Super Cruise. With that experience and exposure\, you could often find Deon on stage with artists like Nick Colionne\, Paul Brown\, Lin Rountree\, Marion Meadows and Marc Antoine to name a few.His latest project “QUINTASTIC” is the culmination of nearly 10 years of paying dues\, relationship building and persistence. The word quintastic is a noun. The definition is “a person who is aged fifty or more and is still attractive and successful\, especially someone famous.” This title was chosen because Deon turned 50 in June of 2018\, this is his 5th solo project and there are 5 songs on the EP.

SUMMARY:Sunday\, June 27th:  Mandi Strachota
DESCRIPTION:Born in Atlanta\, Georgia and raised in the wilds of Wisconsin\, Mandi Strachota is the product of southern roots and Midwest know-how\, a potent mix of practicality and soulful dreaming. Mandi has become a fixture on the Atlanta scene\, playing at local spots like Northside Tavern and Blind Willie’s\, and most recently The Vista Room and as an opener for Delbert McClinton at the Variety Playhouse in 2020. She began taking her music nationwide with a successful cross country tour in 2019 and a scheduled tour for 2020 that was unfortunately postponed by the Coronavirus. She is known for her soulful vocals\, but is a multi-instrumentalist who is quickly becoming known for her songwriting. Mandi released her debut album Fly in the fall of 2013. Her second project Unleashed\, which was released in September of 2017\, tells her very honest story of self-discovery. Embracing R&B\, gospel and soul\, with a touch of grit and country sway\, Unleashed is timeless in its sound\, but thoroughly modern in its message. Mandi was selected as Creative Loafing’s 2019 Reader’s Choice Best Acoustic Artist and was a semifinalist in the 2020 International Blues Challenge. Following the IBC in March of 2020\, she released her third album\, Pictures\, a blues based project that dabbles in jazz\, gospel\, and country and includes her Major 7 bandmates as well as a couple other local favorites. Her 2017 country single Whiskey In the Parking Lot was featured in the Indie film Live or Die In La Honda\, and she is currently in the process of recording a double country album aimed at being released in 2021. \n\n\n\nMandi is also the lead vocalist for the Wasted Potential Brass Band who performed at Bonnaroo 2018 as well as Super Bowl LIII and recently released their first full length album titled Ruining the Surprise Party. WPBB is expected to release another EP in 2021. She is also a former member of the local blues legend Mudcat’s band\, collaborating with him on his 2018 release Castaway. In addition\, she has worked on projects by Andrea and Mud\, Alex Guthrie\, and Eddie 9V.

DESCRIPTION:“While listening to flugelhornist Ron Helman’s new album\, you might detect a strong insinuation of line and form\, of motion\, elegance and grace – and for good reason. Before becoming a jazz musician at the ripe age of 44\, the New Jersey-born\, New Mexico-based Helman spent years as a dancer and gymnast. In his former life\, he served as a dance coach with the Juilliard School Drama Department and even provided chorograpical expertise to the likes of Sting\, Al Pacino ad Julianne Moore. A certified life coach and business coach\, Helman also trained as a classical trumpeter and performed in off-Broadway productions. He calls It Never Entered My Mind an autobiographical album\, and for the most part\, the music on the disc is as compelling and diverse as Helman’s life story. Produced by Mike Mainieri\, the program of 11 jazz standards unfolds with a sense of thematic balance\, alternating hard\, biting swing and misty balladry. Helman’s solo on a gusty “Just Friends” provides flash and pop\, and later a guest turn by vocalist Ann Hampton Callaway on “Born To Be Blue” luxuriates in slow\, deliberate gestures. Helman’s tone is of the airy\, wind-blown sort\, and positions him squarely on the Miles Davis/Chet Baker end of the timbre spectrum. But it’s a tone he adapts tp varied contexts. On “All Or Nothing At All”\, he engages in flinty dialogue with saxophonist Steve Wilson\, generating sparks in the heated exchange\, while on the album-closing title track\, he converses with pianist Rachel Z Hakim and guitarist David Spinozza in whispers. Bassist James Genus and drummer Joel Rosenblatt add crisp accompaniment no matter the setting or style\, and Mainieri’s clean\, clean attentive production ensures a crystalline glow.” \n\n\n\nFIRST SHOW is SOLD OUT. DESCRIPTION:It may sound cliche\, but Michael Burton was made for making music. Jackson\, Mississippi native Michael Burton’s musical gift was trained from an early age and honed through years of commitment. His mother was a singer with the Mississippi Mass Choir and his father a tenor saxophonist. In a home filled with music\, he developed an affinity for soul and jazz. As a student in Jackson Public Schools\, Burton took part in music programs offered at JPS’s Academic and Performing Arts Complex (known as Power APAC) and after graduating from Murrah High School in 1996 he embarked on a journey to build on this musical legacy.Since completing both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Jazz Studies – under the tutelage of David Baker at Indiana University – Burton’s legacy and musical career has flourished. He has toured with Mary J. Blige\, Jill Scott\, Patti LaBelle\, and Anita Baker as well as with New Edition\, Johnta Austin\, soul artist PJ Morton\, and blues singer Willie Clayton. Burton has played keys and sax for the Tyler Perry stage productions Madea Goes To Jail\, What’s Done In The Dark\, Why Did I Get Married\, Hell Hath No Fury\, The Haves and The Have Nots\, Laugh To Keep From Crying\, Madea’s Big Happy Family\, and A Madea Christmas. Burton has appeared in the Perry films Madea’s Big Happy Family\, I Can Do Bad All By Myself\, The Family That Preys\, and Madea’s Family Reunion.Burton has recorded with a long list of jazz\, soul\, rhythm and blues\, gospel\, and hip/hop artists including Lecrae\, Polow Da Don\, Ann Nesby\, Jennifer Holliday\, PJ Morton\, Avery Sunshine\, Marcus Johnson\, The Mississippi Mass Choir\, and many others. His soulful saxophone can also be heard on the Grammy Nominated “Love Has Finally Come At Last\,” by Calvin Richardson. Mike was also a featured soloist on Hidden Beach Recordings “Unwrapped Volume 5.”As if his performance credits weren’t prolific enough\, Burton’s television and studio production work extends the list. He has appeared on The Tonight Show\, Good Morning America\, The Steve Harvey Show\, Ellen\, Jimmy Kimmel\, TV One\, BET Jazz\, and performed alongside pianist Bobby Lyle on the popular show Studio Jams. Mike was in the house band for the 2013 – 2016 Trumpet Awards (which aired on Tone and Bounce TV)\, as well as seasons 6\, 7\, and 8 of BET’s hit show Sunday Best. He was also in the house band for the 2011 Dove Awards\, the 2015 UNCF honors (BET)\, and the 2015 McDonalds 365 Black Awards (BET). Michael frequently appeared on BET’s The Mo’nique show as a member of the house band (Big Jim’s Penthouse Playas). Burton has also written and/or produced songs for Alex Bugnon\, Terrell Carter\, Christian Keyes\, Chandra Currelley\, and Melvin Miller. Mike has released 3 independent projects\, “Sojourn\,” “Soulful\,” and “The Producer.” Most recently\, Mike and a few of his musician friends put together the Good Times Brass Band\, a horn driven band with a funky blend of New Orleans style second line and DC GoGo. DESCRIPTION:7pm and 9pm Showtimes \n\n\n\nSinger MARCY MEREDITH and Guitarist STEVE RIECK team up for an evening of smooth\, acoustic\, romantic jazz..   \n\n\n\nMarcy Meredith (vocalist) has been in the entertainment industry for well over twenty years. Ms. Meredith was born and raised in Atlanta\, Georgia. She began her pursuit of singing behind a closed bedroom door at age seven singing along to her favorite Linda Ronstadt albums. Eventually\, she made her way to the largest stages she could find in her home town. She pursued her love of music through college. Marcella holds a Bachelor of Music from Berry College in Rome\, Georgia\, a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from Georgia State University and a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from University of South Florida\, Tampa. She has worked with professional opera and musical theater companies as well as concert venues and production companies in the southern United States. \n\n\n\nSteve Rieck (guitarist)  moved to Atlanta in 1993 after graduating from the Berklee College of Music. As a performing musician\, he has worked with a variety of bands in various styles and consistently led his own original music projects. He has toured throughout the southeast and performed at the Atlanta Dogwood Festival and the Boston International Folk Festival. His studio recordings have included session work for CNN\, UPS\, ACOG and dozens of other corporate clients and artists including Michael Landau and Kenny Aronoff. Steve has produced and engineered several albums for local Atlanta bands and he has received songwriting awards from Billboard magazine. As an educator\, Steve is the Director of Education and a member of the guitar faculty at the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media teaching classes in Harmony.

DESCRIPTION:Alex Parchment is a dedicated musician\, producer\, and artist. He wasborn in New York City in 1993 to hardworking\, visionary parents. Alex hasbeen honing his trumpet and piano skills for years with his acceptance into the Rosa Parks High School of the Fine and Performing arts in Paterson\, New Jersey\, Jazz Connections\, Jazz House Kids’ inaugural class\, and through Howard University’s rigorous music educationmajor. Alex has had the opportunity to perform on wonderful stages including the Kennedy Center\, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Blues Alley with jazz luminaries Patti Austin\, Christian McBride\, David Sanborn\, Chick Corea\, Marion Meadows and more. In 2015\, he was selected for the world-renowned Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program at the Kennedy Center. In July of 2019\, Alex was invited by Kenny Wesley and the US StateDepartment to travel to Tanzania to perform\, cultivate knowledge and share American culture. \n\n\n\nHe now performs as a solo artist while also leading the Alex Parchment Quintet\, a traditional jazz ensemble and AP.Chemistry\, a musical experiment fusing soul\, funk\, hip hop\, R&B and jazz to form a unique but energetic sound. In April\, 2020\, Alex released his debut album entitled Burnin’ Up\, which yielded two placements on the Smooth Jazz Billboard’s Top 30 Chart (“Vibin’ In Time” rising to #1\, and “It’s Real” rising to #11 respectively). \n\n\n\nThrough education\, Alex endeavors to inspire artists of all backgrounds to look to music as a means of expression and communication. Alex strives to connect a community of artists together to create art that pushes the boundaries of genre and musicianship. \n\n\n\nAlex Parchment performs on Adams instruments.
