SUMMARY:The Birthday Celebration of Sade with Band Adu *** SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! ***
DESCRIPTION:Sade Adu (born Helen Folasade Adu on January 16\, 1959\, in Ibadan\, Nigeria) is a British-Nigerian singer\, songwriter\, and style icon whose warm\, velvety voice and understated elegance helped define the sound of sophisticated pop and soul in the 1980s and beyond. Raised in Essex\, England\, she studied fashion design before joining the Latin-soul band Pride\, where her distinctive vocal presence led to the formation of the group Sade. Their 1984 debut album Diamond Life became an international phenomenon\, earning critical acclaim and launching timeless hits such as “Smooth Operator” and “Your Love Is King.” Known for blending jazz\, soul\, R&B\, and quiet-storm influences with emotional restraint and lyrical depth\, Sade has earned four Grammy Awards\, and has sold more than 75 million records worldwide\, making her one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. Despite her fame\, Sade has remained famously private\, releasing albums sparingly and touring selectively\, which has only deepened her mystique and enduring influence.   \n\n\n\nAcross two magical nights\, The Velvet Note celebrates the birthday of Sade on January 16th and 17th. The eight-piece ensemble Band Adu brings mastery and musical fun to this celebration of Sade’s most beloved music. Audiences can’t get enough–reserve your seats now!

SUMMARY:Friday\, January 23rd: Magnetic Jazz Violinist Ken Ford *** SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! SOLD OUT!! ***
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Ken Ford is a genre-defying jazz violinist whose electrifying sound bridges straight-ahead jazz\, fusion\, R&B\, and classical technique with fearless improvisation. During the early years of his career\, Ken lived a dual life:he earned a degree in Computer Information Systems and secured a position at a major technology firm is an IT Programmer; but at night\, Ken’s passion with the violin landed him in some of Atlanta’s hottest jazz spots. Finding himself unemployed in the mid 90s and with the backing of his family\, Ken took a leap of faith to pursue his music fulltime\, putting 100% of his energy into the success of his career. Ken refers to these times as “the turning point\,” and it was full speed ahead. \n\n\n\nKnown for his rich tone\, rhythmic authority\, and magnetic stage presence\, Ford treats the violin as a full-range voice—capable of swinging\, soaring\, and speaking with deep emotional clarity. His first appearance at The Velvet Note marks a meaningful milestone: an intimate debut in a listening room celebrated for its close artist-audience connection\, where nuance matters and every note is heard. For Ford\, stepping onto The Velvet Note stage is not just another performance—it’s an invitation to strip the music down to its essence\, engage directly with listeners\, and let the violin tell its story without barriers. \n\n\n\nKen has performed with a remarkable roster of celebrated artists across genres—including Bruno Mars\, Chaka Khan\, Maxwell\, Ledisi\, Wyclef Jean\, CeeLo Green\, Erykah Badu\, Jill Scott\, Brian Culbertson\, and the late Barry White—underscoring his versatility and respect among his peers.

SUMMARY:The Grant Green Organ Trio
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: 7:30PM AND 9:30PM. Gregory Green\, known professionally as Grant Green Jr.\, is a jazz guitarist and the eldest son of jazz guitarist Grant Green. He is a member of the group Masters of Groove with Bernard Purdie and Reuben Wilson.   Born in St Louis\, Missouri on August 4\, 1955\, Grant Green Jr. started playing guitar at the age of fourteen. In 1969 he moved to Detroit with his famous father\, who died ten years later. His neighbors included Stevie Wonder‘s parents\, Marvin Gaye\, and members of the Four Tops. He has worked with Richard “Groove” Holmes\, Leon Thomas\, Jimmy McGriff\, Lou Donaldson\, and Lonnie Smith. \n\n\n\nDeeply rooted in hard bop and soul-jazz\, his playing blends that classic Blue Note warmth with a modern\, road-honed edge—groove-first\, lyrical\, and unapologetically swinging. \n\n\n\nBeyond honoring the lineage\, Grant Green\, Jr. has carved his own lane as a dynamic performer and thoughtful interpreter of the Great American Songbook and his father’s catalog. His tribute projects aren’t museum pieces—they’re living conversations\, connecting generations through feel\, finesse\, and a deep respect for melody. Perfect for intimate rooms where nuance matters and every note lands.
