You will want to be sure to catch this show! \n\n\n\nChandra is currently a regular on BET+ Dramedy  “Bruh” she portrays the over-the -top “Alice”. You also probably recognize Chandra as Ms. V. in Tyler Perry’s “FOR BETTER OR WORSE” and  in the #1 box office movie\, “DIARY OF A MAD  BLACK WOMAN ” playing herself in the nightclub Chandra’s. Also starring as “Shirley” in “Madea’s Big Happy Family” the stage play.  Who  can forget her show stopping performance  as Loretta in KANDI BURRESS’s  (The Real Housewives of Atlanta) “A Mother’s Love” and the movie Madea’s Big Happy Family as the choir soloist\, Sister Laura.  CHANDRA is the former lead singer of  The legendary recording group The S.O.S. Band\, replacing the original lead singer. She continued the band’s string of Top Twenty Billboard hits with the CD’s “Diamonds In The Raw”\, and “One Of Many Nights”\, where she wrote several songs\, including the single “Broken Promises”.  Ms. Currelley is the recipient of the Lady Soul of Jazz award\, 2018 Atlanta Actors Award\, BWIJA award for Best Female in The Arts & Theatre and The BIBO Reflection award for Outstanding Film & Media Achievement.  Ms. CURRELLEY also starred in the world premier of “Jesus Christ Superstar Gospel”\, and as Mother Shaw in Regina Taylor’s “Crowns”. \n\n\n\nThe Gospel Choice Award nominee has performed at The White House and toured Europe and Asia leaving audiences wanting more. Spanning as wide a range of influences as there are genres of music\, Taylor Roberts has earned a reputation on the world map as a rising star. Although his heart is deeply steeped in Jazz\, Roberts does not easily fit into any one box. His influences range from R&B\, to Classic Rock\, to Pop\, and everything in between. \n\n\n\nYears of intensive study with world-renowned educators such as Barry Greene\, Keith Javors\, and Bunky Green have proven to continually pay off as his career expands. His reworkings and adaptations of songs old and new entrance established fans\, while attracting new fans on a nightly basis. Roberts has appeared multiple times at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival and has toured internationally with the Christian Tamburr Quintet. He has been hired by the Rolling Stones to play their private events. Reggie Hines’ soulful and expressive sound has provided him the opportunity to write\, produce\, and perform music for and with a diverse roster of artists including Chaka Khan\, Angie Stone\, Regina Belle\, Mary J Blidge and the list goes on. Reggie Hines’ television performances include The Late Show with David Letterman\, Live with Regis and Kelly\, The Ellen DeGeneres Show\, a role in the film Bessie\, starring Queen Latifah\, NBC Comedy Awards\, VH1 Hip Hop Honors Dirty South\, The Key and Peele Comedy Central halftime performance (Move All the Chairs Video) \, NBC’s Mr. Robinson television show playing with Earth \, Wind and Fire\, and 3 Super Bowl 49 Pepsi commercials with Craig Robinson and The Nasty Delicious Band (he is actually a member of the band). As Reggie’s musical gifting began to unfold\, he joined the U.S. Army band where he received some of his most rigorous musical instruction. During his training\, Reggie embraced studying the multicultural styles that he so elegantly weaves into his signature sound today. As with any great jazz musician\, Reggie Hines’ improvisational abilities allow him to fully express his emotions through song whether he is just adding highlights to a melody\, or blazing through an extended-range solo.

The Gardening Club is a progressive psychedelic jazz fusion group based in Greenville South Carolina. Formed in 2019 The Gardening Club performs music that pushes the boundaries of the genre while redefining the limits of the banjo.  \n\n\n\nFounding Members Carson Moore and Miles Jernigan have been composing together for half a decade. Writing for the unexplored sonic timbre of the banjo in a traditional jazz setting\, the two compose pieces that delve into an uncharted soundscape fusing two of the United States oldest musical genres\, jazz and Appalachian folk. Having worked with a variety of artists such as but not limited to jazz guitar legend Mike Stern\, two-time Grammy award winning percussionist Quentin Baxter and his band “Ranky Tanky”\, and five time Grammy award winning saxophonist Chris Bullock\, The Gardening Club exists in a soundscape at the forefront of jazz fusion blending a variety of different cultures and subgenres of jazz creating a sound that is uniquely our own. Their debut single features Mike Stern on an original collaboration “Flight 19” produced by Grammy award winning sound engineer Aki Nishimura. For the majority of 2022 The Gardening Club worked closely with Grammy Winning Gullah musician Quentin Baxter on a month-long jazz outreach concert series at the Tryon Fine Arts Center consisting of performances from both “The Gardening Club”\, and “The Quentin Baxter Quintet” as well as multiple collaborations between the two groups. The series focused on showcasing\, celebrating\, and educating the local community on the history of African American jazz musicians from the Carolinas such as John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie highlighting the historical significance of their contributions to jazz.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOver the course of the last year The Gardening Club has toured across the American southeast performing at esteemed venues and festivals such as but not limited to Floyd Festival (VA)\, The Greenville Peace Center\, The first annual Earl Scruggs Festival\, The Piccolo Spoleto Festival\, The Albino Skunk Festival\, The Tryon Fine Arts Center\, and a featured performance as the only jazz band admitted to the 2022 IBMA Wide Open Bluegrass Festival.

She participated in the opening & closing ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games\, sharing the stage with B.B. King\, Winton Marsalis\, Stevie Wonder\, Little Richard and a host of other veterans in the music industry.  Along with the Voice of Atlanta choir\, she recorded with the legendary Sir Elton John.  8 members of the choir which included Sugarlips’ harmonious voice\, joined Sir Elton on his US & European tours to promote the “Peachtree Road” cd project. As a soloist with Voice of Atlanta (VOA) choir and now the leader of her own R&B and jazz band & the featured vocalist with Mudbone Turner’s blues band\, you may hear Sugarlips’ voice anywhere.

Graduating from some of the nations most prestigious jazz programs\, Satterthwaite earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas in Jazz Piano Performance\, a Master of Arts in Commercial Music from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami. Satterthwaite is an Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano and African American Studies at the University of Georgia. He has studied with Stephen Scott\, Ron Miller\, Pat Coil\, Dave Meder\, Quincy Davis\, Brad Leali\, and Lynn Seaton. His educational experiences have impacted his teaching philosophy as he brings forth the knowledge\, observations\, and backgrounds of the educators\, artists and creative makers that he has interacted with and learned from over the years. As a scholarly contribution to the field\, Satterthwaite presented “Beyond Fourths and Pentatonics: A Critical Analysis of Selected Recordings of McCoy Tyner “1962 to 1963” at the national 2021 Jazz Education Network Conference.  \n\n\n\nSatterthwaite arranged and composed all songs on his debut album “Who I Am\,” which can be heard on major music streaming platforms\, and is releasing his sophomore album “Savannah Blue\,” this evening at The Velvet Note!

Zach’s original music and unique arrangements are inspired by the jazz tradition\, but also draw heavily from Afro-Cuban rhythms and modern influences. She began her love affair with music and the trumpet at 10 years old. During her formative years of high school and college\, Tiffany had the privilege of studying under her mentors\, Tuscan Jasper and Bob Ransom respectively\, two professional jazz trumpet players. She received a Bachelors of Science in Music from Hampton University in Audio Engineering\, and has since received a professional certification in Producing Music for Film and TV\, from Berklee College of Music and a Masters in Ethnomusicology from Liberty University. \n\n\n\nTiffany enjoys fusing jazz with her other musical influences like reggae\, hip-hop\, in order to create her own sound.  \n\n\n\nTiffany’s music has been featured in several independent films including Joy Road\, Every Scar and Dimple and Break/Fast. Over her lifetime\, Tiffany has had the opportunity to grace the stage with many notable local and national musicians including the Count Basie Orchestra\, Tito Puente Jr.\, Myrna Clayton\, Pato Banton\, Jesse Royal\, Jah9\, SaRoc and Derrick “Hott Soss” Cummings to name a few.

SUMMARY:Friday\, June 9th:  Smooth Jazz Bassist Tony Saunders
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES:  7:30pm and 9:30pm.  Two-time Emmy Award winning bassist\, composer\, producer and son of legendary Bay Area keyboardist\, Merl Saunders\, Tony Saunders’ life has been infused with one musical adventure after another. As an arranger\, producer\, composer and performer\, Saunders has conquered the worlds of jazz\, gospel\, R&B\, pop\, rock and world music. He earned the first of his two Emmys at age 14 for collaborating with his dad on the PBS documentary Soul Is and by 17 was playing with Merl and Jerry Garcia on their collaborative projects. The second was earned for his contribution on the TV show\, Digital Journey\, on the episode\, “China: Their New Digital Economy.” Though he took one of his first musical lessons on piano from Herbie Hancock\, the bass he received from John Fogerty’s brother Tom – and watching recording sessions with famed bassists Anthony Davis and Lee Miles – sparked a lifelong passion for that instrument that now\, 50 years later\, has led to his emergence as a major independent force in contemporary jazz.

Originally from Cuba\, as a performer she focuses on the Latin jazz\, cha-cha-cha\, danzón\, son\, mambo\, and bolero genres. Not only is she an excellent singer\, she is also competent in playing a wide range of musical instruments. As a multi-instrumentalist artist and music teaching professional\, she endeavors to give her all in each single performance and project and is fully committed to providing a solid education and instilling music appreciation in all her students. \n\n\n\nBefore emigrating to the U.S.\, Jessy had the opportunity to perform with the Matanzas Symphonic Orchestra (Matanzas\, Cuba)\, University of Arts Symphonic Orchestra (Havana\, Cuba)\, Failde Youth Band (Matanzas\, Cuba)\, and Suns of Cuba (Matanzas\, Cuba). \n\n\n\nOne of the highlights of her career include a performance for President Barack Obama during a Cuban State Dinner in Havana\, Cuba\, on March 21\, 2016. SUMMARY:Sunday\, May 28th:  The C4 Experience
DESCRIPTION:ONE SHOW ONLY @ 7:00pm.  This quartet\, simply called C4\, is the brainchild of percussionist\, composer\, and conductor Casen Alesi. Casen is currently a freshman percussion performance major at Kennesaw State University. He has already established himself as a force of nature in the percussion world as a performer and promoter of new music both in the world of classical and jazz. He has commissioned multiple world premieres and performed alongside the industry’s best\, including Joseph Alessi and John Faddis. Comprised of fellow Kennesaw State jazz musicians Owen Anderson on guitar\, Matteo Staciarine and Brandon Lewis alternating on piano\, and Eisen Griffen on bass\, C4 brings the next generation of jazz musicians to your backyard. With the ability to flow from bebop to hip-hop and everywhere in between\, C4 presents a night of music that’ll be genuinely unforgettable.

Intermingling Slim’s original contemporary jazz music (as heard on Sirius/XM Watercoors\, WCLK Atlanta and WJZA Atlanta)\, with everything from 90’s R&B\, Latin-Island-Afrobeat fusion\, 70’s smooth jazz\, 80’s rock\, maybe an action Jazz Standard and…well\, you get the picture. There’s never been a dull moment when Slim Gambill comes to the Velvet Note\, and evenly his usual standards\, this is a night that will surprise and entertain you. And will likely surprise the band too.
